Orange County firefighters evacuate senior living facility with no power

Orange County Fire Rescue says a senior living facility was evacuated Wednesday.

Officials say the building hasn't had power since the storm, which means no air conditioning.

Crews say 66 people were evacuated from Brookdale Wekiwa Springs near Apopka.

Fire officials say they received four 911 calls from the senior facility Wednesday and provided three transports.

That's why a captain decided to notify DCF and the sheriff's office and initiate an evacuation.

Brookdale sent FOX 35 this statement in response to the evacuation:

“We are committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for our residents and associates. We are working closely with local officials to get power restored. We take this situation very seriously and we are relocating residents of three communities to other locations that have power.

We are mobilizing larger generators to communities that may still need additional power.

Please know that we are working closely with local emergency officials to constantly assess and respond the ongoing situation.

While this is not an ideal for anyone, we appreciate the power crews who are working as fast as they can to help us all.”
