Ocoee police give update on deadly officer-involved shooting

The Ocoee Police Department provides an update on a deadly officer-involved shooting involving 54-year-old Stacie Lynn Guerrero.

The Ocoee Police Department has released new details about an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a woman.

Chief of Police Vincent Ogburn told reporters that officers responded to a Publix parking lot on West Road following a report of a stolen vehicle.

At this time, it remains unclear who reported the vehicle as stolen, as it is connected to a separate investigation by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

‘We understand that the loss of life is tragic’

What they're saying:

"We're going to show you a video in a moment, and you can see the officers approaching the vehicle and engaging in conversation with the driver, Stacy Guerrero," Ogburn said. "You'll see Guerrero back up her vehicle, striking one of the officers with the vehicle and knocking them back. You'll also see Guerrero drive forward, striking the other officer as he is back and is backing away. Because of these threats to the lives, one of the officers discharged his service weapon, striking Mrs. Guerrero."

"We understand that the loss of life is tragic and we take this incident very seriously. We ask the community for their patience as this investigation is ongoing."

The backstory:

On Thursday, police released surveillance video which captured the woman – 54-year-old Stacie Lynn Guerrero – allegedly charging at two officers with a vehicle.

As they approached the driver, Guerrero, officers said she accelerated toward the officers, striking both of them.

One officer fired their weapon, hitting Guerrero. She was taken to AdventHealth, where she later died from her injuries. Police said neither officer sustained serious injuries.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave with pay, in accordance with department policy, while the FDLE investigates.
