New evidence in Clermont murder investigation
CLERMONT, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 - Police have a new piece of evidence as they continue to investigate the murder of 21-year-old Andrew Jones. Jones was shot and killed on February 6 in the parking of East Towne Center near State Road 50 and County Road 455.
He was driving his family’s white Volkswagen CC that day. It disappeared from the crime scene. Police Chief Charles Broadway said Monday that the car was discovered Sunday night in Oakland. The car had been torched and covered in graffiti.
Broadway told reporters investigators believe the killer was someone that Jones knew and the shooting was an isolated incident. They still do not have a motive in the case.
Jones’ father, mother and several female relatives sat behind Broadway holding photographers of the victim during press conference. Steven Jones pleaded with the public for information. “It’s got to be someone close. Right up the road. The community has got to look at [it and say], ‘Hey, there’s somebody who shot someone.’ There’s a murderer out there. It could be your kid,” Jones said.
Crimeline is now offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Anyone with information should contact Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS or Clermont Police at 352-343-2101.
