BREVARD COUNTY, Fla (FOX 35 WOFL) - A man was arrested after threatening to blow up the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections Office because he was upset about receiving unsolicited calls from political candidates.
The Brevard County Sheriff's Office says that on Monday evening, deputies arrested 65-year-old Daniel Chen of Melbourne after he called in a bomb threat to the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections Office.
They say that Chen was charged with False Report of a Bomb and was transported to the Brevard County Jail, where he is being held on a $15,000 bond.
The investigation began on Monday afternoon when the Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Supervisor of Elections, who advised that a telephone call was received from a male who was upset due to receiving unsolicited calls from political candidates. Deputies say that the male threatened to 'blow up' the Supervisor of Elections Office because of these calls. During his contact with the Supervisor of Elections, the caller reportedly provided his name and telephone number.
Sheriff's agents say that they were able to locate Chen and confirm that he was responsible for the threat. He was taken into custody without incident.
