Man dead after deputy-involved shooting

A 29-year-old man is dead following a shooting involving a Volusia County law enforcement officer.

It happened Friday night  in the area of 1600 N. U.S. Highway 17 in Seville.

According to the Volusia County sheriff officials, a deputy responded to an ongoing domestic violence call between the suspect and his girlfriend.

When the deputy arrived, he described the suspect as "uncooperative."

When the suspect’s girlfriend came out to speak with the deputy the suspect grabbed her and engaged in a struggle with her at the top of the stairs, deputies said.

According to officials, the officer deployed his Taser on the suspect telling him to put his arms behind his back, but the suspect refused and struggled with the officer for several minutes.

During the struggle, the suspect grabbed the deputy’s Taser causing it to discharge. That's when the deputy fatally shot the suspect, police said.

This is an ongoing investigation, and the deputy was placed on administrative leave, which is we're told is standard.
