Man arrested, faces DUI manslaughter charges, after hitting 6-year-old bicyclist
APOPKA, Fla. - A 6-year-old child was struck and killed Saturday while riding a bicycle in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
What we know:
The crash occurred at the intersection of Cloud Avenue and W. Tahoe Street.
Troopers said the driver of a 2003 Chevy Suburban, identified as 53-year-old Francisco Rosillo Arriola of Apopka, was traveling north on Cloud Avenue and failed to stop at a posted stop sign.
The child, who was riding east on W. Tahoe Street, was struck by the front of the vehicle.
A witness told authorities that the driver did not stop at the stop sign.
The child was transported to AdventHealth Apopka, where they were pronounced dead.
Arriola remained on the scene and was arrested on multiple charges, including DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, DUI 3rd violation, operating a vehicle without a license causing death, and running a stop sign.
Arriola had been previously arrested for charges including DUI, driving without a license and failure to stop at a stop sign.
The FHP investigation is ongoing.
