Lake Nona H.S. student found shot to death in neighborhood
ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Residents in one quiet Orlando neighborhood were left stunned after a shooting there left K'vonte Dowe, 17, dead, and police left searching for answers.
Police say the victim was a student at Lake Nona High School.
Fox 35 spoke with a neighbor who lives right near the cul-de-sac where Orlando police say the teen was shot to death. She said she was watching TV when it happened.
"Around four to five shots. It sounded like fireworks. We're not used to hearing noises like that in this neighborhood. Then followed by one last shot, and then there was just quiet," the neighbor said.
The neighbor was so surprised that she didn't think to call 911. "I wasn't even convinced myself that what I was hearing was actual gunfire."
Police say the call came in just before 1 a.m. They arrived to find the teen dead in the street. The violence worried the neighbor and the rest of the people living in the quiet Lake Nona community.
"It kind of makes you a little concerned that anything like this could happen anywhere," the neighbor said. "This neighborhood is completely family oriented and a good area. So it's a little shocking and jolting."
