Juvenile suspect arrested in a number of Palm Bay vehicle burglaries
ORLANDO, Fla. - A juvenile suspect believed to be involved in a series of vehicle burglaries was arrested Wednesday night after a swift response by law enforcement, according to the Palm Bay Police Department.
What we know:
Sgt. Fooks, heading to his night shift, spotted a female juvenile riding a bicycle near DeGroodt Road SW and Westside Elementary School.
Recognizing her from surveillance footage tied to burglaries committed the previous night, he conducted a traffic stop.
The juvenile, wearing clothing matching the clothes in the footage, initially complied but then fled on foot, according to officials.

The suspect ran through a canal and nearby backyards in the Gaspar Street SW area.
After a brief chase, Sgt. Fooks and responding officers apprehended the suspect.

The Palm Bay Police Department reminded residents to take precautions to prevent vehicle burglaries. "Locking your vehicle doors is a simple yet effective step to safeguard your belongings," the department said in a statement.
