Investigation: Officer-involved shooting at apartment complex
ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - An officer-involved shooting was reported very early on Monday morning on Conroy Road in Orlando.
The Orlando Police Department says that at approximately 12:33 a.m., officers responded to Millenium Cove Apartments on Cason Cove Drive in reference to a suicidal person. The caller stated that a family member was threatening suicide and left the apartment with a handgun.
Upon arrival at the apartment complex, officers say that they located the subject, who was still armed with the handgun. An officer discharged his firearm at the subject, but the subject was not struck. They still managed to take the subject into custody.
The handgun was reportedly recovered and no injuries resulted due to this incident. The subject was taken to Aspire Health Partners under “Baker Act” criteria. Charges for this incident aer pending and will be filed at-large with the State Attorney’s Office for Carrying a Concealed Firearm and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.
The Orlando Police Department says that the officer who discharged his firearm is on temporary, paid administrative leave, as is the case in any officer involved shooting. After being investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the State Attorney's Office will determine whether any laws were violated. After that, the Orlando Police Departmetn will determine if any policy violations have occurred.
