Homicide investigation: Man found dead in mechanic's garage

A homicide investigation has been launched in Fruitland Park after a man was found dead in a mechanic's garage.

A man, suspected to be about 50, was found dead around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night from apparent gunshot wounds in a blue mechanic's garage. The big bay door of the garage was open when officers arrived on scene.

The Fruitland Park Police Department, who is on scene with medical examiners and the Lake County Sheriff's Office, believe the death is suspicious.

Fox 35 reporter Dana Jay was also on scene Wednesday morning and spoke to the Fruitland Park Police Department Chief, who said that "We have no indicators that it was self-inflicted or anything like that. The scene seems to be a scene that maybe there was some sort of struggle. But the crime scene investigators are still in there checking that out."

Police do not believe that the garage was being used as a business or home.

The police chief says that his officers are speaking to as many witnesses as they can. He is asking that people in the neighborhood talk to their neighbors and see if anyone has heard anything out of the ordinary so that they can try to start putting the pieces together.

If you might know any information regarding the incident, please call the Fruitland Park Police Department or Crimeline.
