Gwen Farrell Adair, ‘MASH’ actress, dies at 94

Gwen Farrell Adair, best known for her work in the classic television show "M*A*S*H," has died. She was 94.

Her family confirmed the news in a GoFundMe set up to support her funeral and memorial expenses.

"Today, our family is heartbroken to share the passing of Gwen Farrell Adair," the family wrote. "Her passing leaves a deep void in our hearts, one that cannot be filled. We will miss her voice, her strength, and the quiet comfort she brought into our lives. While we are heartbroken, we are also incredibly grateful for the life she lived and the legacy she leaves behind."

TMZ was the first media outlet to report her death. Keith Farrel, her son, told the entertainment news outlet that Adair died on Thursday of natural causes.

The backstory:

Born in Austin, Texas, Farrell made her onscreen debut in the second episode of "M*A*S*H" in 1972, appearing on the CBS war comedy drama as various nurses throughout the show’s 11-season run.

She also appeared in an episode of "Starsky & Hutch," as well as movies including, "Black Gunn" (1972), "Soylent Green" (1973), "Coffy" (1973), "Earthquake" (1974), "Towering Inferno" (1974) and "Billy Jack Goes to Washington" (1977).

Apart from acting, Farrell became one of the first female licensed boxing referees. 

"Gwen stepped into the boxing world as a referee in California, a space where women were rarely seen at the time," her family continued. "With confidence, fairness, and unwavering composure, she earned the respect of fighters, trainers, and fans alike. She didn’t just do the job; she broke barriers and proved that strength comes in many forms."
