Florida family searches Georgia for missing woman
A Florida family is in Cobb County searching for Katrice Simmons, 59, who went missing after moving to Georgia.
FULTON COUNTY, Ga. - A 59-year-old Florida woman remains missing over two months after relocating to Georgia to live with a man she met online, prompting her family to search Georgia for answers.
What we know:
Katrice Simmons, 59, moved from Pensacola, Florida, to Georgia in April after an online relationship became serious, and she loaded up a U-Haul with her belongings.
The last time her children or close family heard from her was May 19, when her daughter noted that Simmons sounded like she was in distress.
Her family filed a missing persons report with Atlanta police, stating that going completely no-contact is out of character for her.
Loved ones believe Simmons was living at an apartment in the 300 block of Lanier Street NW before she vanished.
Family members claim they asked the man she moved to Georgia to be with if he knew her whereabouts, but he said no.
When calls are made to her phone, it goes straight to voicemail. Simmons had a black Chevy Equinox that was missing its back door window, according to her family.
What we don't know:
Authorities and family members do not know the location of Simmons, her belongings, her phone or her vehicle. She was driving a black Chevrolet Equinox that had a missing rear window.
Although her family spoke with the man Simmons moved to Georgia to live with, he stated that he does not know where she is located. Her phone remains turned off.
What they're saying:
Relatives expressed deep alarm over the break in communication. "She will reach out to one of her daughters, she's going to always keeps in touch with one of them or her son and that's the alarming part," sister Felicia Pettiway said.
Her nephew Amir shared details about her engagement and sudden move, stating, "By December she stated to her family that she was engaged to him soon to be married by April. She moved here, by May she went missing."
Family members revealed that all they want is closure.
"All we want to know is where she is, where is her car, where is her phone, where are her belongings," family members said.
Despite checking local resources, family members admit they fear the worst.
"I believe that there may be a possibility that my auntie is dead," a family member said, adding, "We've gone to the shelters, we've gone to the morgues. My son had done everything, typed her name to search and there is no Katrice."
