Fires damage vehicles at MetLife Stadium
NEW JERSEY (FOX5NY) - It was a miserable day inside the stadium and also in the parking lot for some unlucky New York Jets fans.
Hot coals left by tailgaters are blamed for two fires that burned or damaged seven vehicles in MetLife Stadium parking lots. The fires happened Sunday during the game between the Jets and Minnesota Vikings.
State Trooper Alejandro Goez tells the Star-Ledger one of the fires started after a driver parked in an area where tailgaters had dumped hot coals from a grill. Another vehicle parked over coals in another lot, and flames spread to five other vehicles.
No one was injured. Goez says it's not the first time this has happened at the stadium.

The fans who came back to their burned cars had just watched the Jets get thumped 37-17 after rookie quarterback Sam Darnold was intercepted three times and lost a fumble on a snap.
