Firefighters battle massive warehouse fire in North Philly

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Firefighters battled a multi-alarm warehouse fire on W. Lippincott Street and N. 21st Street in North Philadelphia.

The blaze broke out around 6:30 p.m. Friday. SkyFOX showed heavy fire and smoke coming from the 4-story building. The fire reached 5-alarms by 8 p.m. Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel said in a Friday evening press conference that 3 floors of the building collapsed during the fire fight. 

"This remains an active fire fight. The light you see behind me that's actullay fire in the middle of the building. We are still fighting fire here despite that we placed it under control. Again, that just means it's not going anywhere," Commissioner Thiel said.

The fire was placed under control shortly before 9:30 p.m., but crews will remain on the scene.  Officials say over 200 firefighters were on the scene at the peak of the fire. 

There have been no injuries or evacuations at this time. Multiple streets in the area are closed to traffic. 

No word on how the fire started.
