Driver injured after car hits and kills alligator

Brevard County Fire Rescue says the call came in for an accident involving a car and alligator at around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday near Titusville.  The driver was taken to the hospital but person's condition was not immediately known.

A photograph was taken by a man who was driving to work when he came across the surprising scene.

"I pull up to the emergency lights, trying to see what's going on. I saw some rescue folks going into the water off to the side of the ditch. I got close enough, I saw something was laying in the road," explained James Devine. "He was big, big gator, about 11 foot!"

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials warn that alligators are more active in the summer and more likely to be on the move.
