What started out as a report of a car crash has now escalated into a homicide investigation. That victim has now been identified as 57-year-old Michael Campbell.

Just after midnight shots rang out on 20th street and Parramore Ave. “It appears that as the driver was driving away they started shooting towards him,” Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Ingrid Tejada-Monforte said.

Just yards away the victim crashed into the back of this van on this man’s yard. Adam Meza woke to the sights and sounds of a crime scene.  “Woke up scared,” he said. “Gunshots and the impact of the car.”

That’s where Orlando firefighters found Michael Campbell, 57, behind the steering wheel unresponsive. “The individual received several shots and was pronounced dead at the hospital,” Tejada-Monforte said.

Deputies searched the car and scoured the scene for evidence to only find two shell casings.

For now there are no suspects and no clear motive.

The victim is no stranger to law enforcement. Campbell has an extensive criminal history for armed robbery and drug violations. It is unclear what he was doing in this neighborhood in the middle of the night and what led up to the fatal shooting.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said they have no witnesses and no leads. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS. If the information you provide leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a reward.
