Donkey Kong the turtle found trapped and had ingested a balloon
CLEARWATER, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Donkey Kong, a juvenile critically endangered Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle who weighs only two pounds, o was found entangled in fishing gear. A piece of balloon was also found passing through his system.
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) rescued Donkey Kong on June 13th after boaters found the rare sea turtle miles off shore with fishing gear line from a marker buoy wrapped around his right front flipper.
Donkey Kong is currently rehabilitating at the CMA, where the aquarium staff found that the sea turtle ingested a piece of a balloon.
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is hopeful that the rare sea turtle will be able to return to the ocean soon. Until then, people can watch Donkey Kong on his web cam or visit him at Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
