Deputies: Man attacks furniture with axe after leaving son in a car

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is charging a father with Neglect of A Child after he left his 2-year-old son in a running vehicle for 15 minutes while he was inside his residence sleeping.

A deputy says that he responded to the residence in reference to a domestic disturbance. The reporting person, Charles Adams, told the deputy that his 35-year-old son, Jonathan Adams, was arguing with his mother earlier in the morning while on the beach in New Smyrna. They later went to the parade and he was still arguing with his mother.

Charles went on to say that later that night, Jonathan Adam's sister heard her nephew calling for Jonathon, while sitting in Jonathan's vehicle. She got the child out of the vehicle and called for her father, Charles, to come across the street to Jonathon's residence.

The report states that Charles said he found Jonathan passed out in bed, so he woke him up. Jonathon realized he left his son in the vehicle for approximately 15 minutes and was very remorseful. However, he then became angry and began to break up his furniture with an axe. Charles took away the axe until Jonathan eventually calmed down.

Charles told deputies that after that, Jonathan did not threaten him with the axe or harm the child.

Jonathan Adams was arrested for Neglect of A Child. The child was left in custody of Jonathan's sister.
