Deputies investigation homicide of missing person whose remains were found

Deputies have arrested a man after discovering human remains that matched with a missing person from Sumter County. 

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office says that on Tuesday, they received confirmation that the dismembered human remains from an incident on Belt Avenue in Bushnell were those of missing person Claudio Carvajal Hernandez.

The death has been ruled a homicide by the medical examiner, with the cause of death listed as homicidal violence by unknown means. The condition of Carvajal Hernandez' remains required extensive laboratory testing in order to make it a positive DNA match.

An arrest warrant was issued on Tuesday for the step-son, identified as Benito Peralta Farrar. Deputies say he was arrested on the charges of 2nd Degree Murder and Abuse of Dead Human Body. He is being held at the Sumter County Detention Center on no bond.
