Daytona Beach World War II veteran honored

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A curious health center employee has uncovered a resident's World War II service and is making sure the 93 year old is recognized for his sacrifice.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/1Kdd6mL ) reports that Navy veteran Clayton Christansen served on transport ships that took troops from England to Europe and witnessed the liberation of France from Nazi occupation.

Andy Pollock, a chaplain at Halifax Health, was curious about Christansen and began to research his story. The elderly man has no living relatives and does not speak. Pollock found one of the man's former employers who told him Christansen's history.

Hsoptial staff recently presented Christansen with a certificate during a celebration recognizing his World War II service.
