What we know:
Hoover, 46, shared in an Instagram story that Monday was her second to last day of radiation.
"I wish I could blame my hair and facial expression on Texas Oncology, but they’ve been great," she captioned a mirror selfie. "Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them."
What we don't know:
Hoover didn’t share details about what type of cancer she’s been diagnosed with, or how long she’s been undergoing radiation.
Dig deeper:
Though she did share a few other details last week on Facebook, sharing that doctors believe her cancer stemmed from her environment and/or lifestyle, rather than family genes, HPV or excessive hormones.
What they're saying:
"I’m happy and grateful to be alive but I hate vegetables. I hate when I have to get off the couch. I hate sweating. I hate when science is right. If you see me at the gym, don’t even tell me good job. If you see me at a restaurant eating grilled chicken and drinking water, I’m probably real mad about it," she wrote.

The backstory:
The Texas-based writer broke through in 2012 when, through an Amazon.com program, she released "Slammed," which became a showcase for how an author in the Internet age can succeed through luck and worth of mouth. Bloggers and social media helped the book grow a following online, and within months "Slammed" was on The New York Times e-book fiction list, despite having no organized publicity. By the end of the year, Hoover had self-published a best-selling sequel, "Point of No Retreat," and signed a deal with the Simon & Schuster imprint Atria.
Big picture view:
She has since been a prolific and reliably popular romance (sometimes called "New Adult") and thriller writer, authoring more than 25 novels and novellas.
Her novels are largely popular on TikTok, helping grow the "BookTok phenomenon, where readers gush about their favorite books.
"It Ends With Us" and "Regretting You" have been adapted into film.
What's next:
Her other titles, "Reminders of Him" and "Verity", are headed to the big screen over the next year. "Reminders of Him" releases March 13, 2026, and "Verity" in October 2026.
