DUNWOODY, Ga. - Hundreds of brides, bridesmaids and mothers of the bride flocked to Alfred Angelo stores in Georgia, panicking over the word of store closures nationwide.
The Dunwoody, Georgia location remained closed all of Friday, with a posted notice for customers to contact a bankruptcy attorney.
"This is a nightmare," said one bridesmaid, who paid more than $300 for her dress for a wedding in a matter of days.
Another bride tells FOX 5 News, she paid $1,200 for a dress; the ceremony is in a month.
"It's awful. It's sad," said bride Karen Smith, who paid $900 for a down payment for her dress. She said she is grateful she has time to find a backup plan for her October wedding.
Women tell FOX 5, they are confused over whether they will even get a refund, or will ever get the dresses they paid for in full.
No service members answered the phone number for Alfred Angelo customer service when we called multiple times.
The bankruptcy attorney did not respond to our requests for comment or various questions.
The FOX 5 I-Team gives customers of Alfred Angelo these pieces of advice:
- Save all receipts and correspondence between yourself and the company.
- Contact the bankruptcy attorney. The notice on Dunwoody's Alfred Angelo store requests customers email attorney Patricia Redmond at email@example.com.
- If Alfred Angelo files bankruptcy, make sure to immediately call the designated federal bankruptcy court and put yourself on the list of creditors. The company is based in South Florida.
- Get to a bridal store for a backup dress immediately, as many people will request rush orders; various stores are offering discounts to Alfred Angelo customers with proof of purchase and receipts.
