DEBARY, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office says that a 60-year-old man was killed when his bicycle hit a vehicle in DeBary on Saturday night.
They say that the crash happened around 8:24 p.m. on Charles R. Beall Boulevard at Palmira Road. The bicyclist was traveling west on Palmira Road when he turned onto Charles R. Beall and hit the passenger side front of a northbound Ram truck. The driver was reportedly unable to change lanes in time to avoid impact with the bicycle.
The deceased victim has been identified as 60-year-old David M. Newland. He was pronounced dead on scene.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office say that alcohol use by Newland is considered to be a factor in the accident. He was not wearing a helmet or reflective clothing.
There were no other injuries. The driver involved remained on scene, cooperated, and showed no signs of impairment.
