Arrest made in armed carjacking in Dr. Phillips area

Orange County deputies have arrested a teenager in connection with an armed carjacking that happened on Nov. 15 in the Dr. Phillips area.

Authorities said a homeowner was shot when he confronted four suspects who were attempting to steal his Toyota Prius, which was parked in front of his own home on Megan Elissa Ln.

Neighbor Don Macmillan encountered the suspected carjackers as they used his yard as an escape path.

"They jumped over this," he explained.  "About 15 seconds later, another one comes, and I started yelling at him. He looks at me... and he was scared too, and he jumped over.  They were scared.  They did something bad.  I immediately called 911."

Deputies say one of the four involved, a 16-year-old boy, is now in custody.

"I'm happy, but not happy it was a kid and not happy there was a gun involved. Wish it didn't happen," said Macmillan. "If they have one, maybe they can connect the dots and stop these people or kids from doing this, before someone gets hurt."

The man who was shot is recovering from non life-threatening injuries.  Investigators have not said exactly what role the teenager played in the incident.

Any information on the this attempted carjacking and shooting should call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
