Animal abuse laws could get more strict in Volusia County

Animal abuse laws could get more strict in Volusia County.

There was an Animal Control Advisory Board meeting on Wednesday. The main topic was limiting the amount of time that animals could be left tied up outside. Currently, there is no limit on the books.

"We want to make sure that we're increasing protections for pets and closing loopholes to any current ordinances that we have in place," Adam Leath, the Volusia County Animal Services Director, said.

The board is going through 60 pages of proposed changes. The public will have the chance to weigh-in at future meetings.
