Sail 250 New Orleans (Louisiana)

When: May 28-June 1

What: To celebrate America’s 250th birthday, the largest-ever flotilla of tall ships from around the world will set sail along the Mississippi. The nautical spectacle will begin in New Orleans with a focus on the Gulf Coast’s distinct colonial and riverboat history.

National Salute to America’s Heroes (Miami Beach, Florida):

When: June 15-25

What: Over 10 days, more than 600 riders will take turns carrying a historic leather mochila (backpack) stuffed with mail across eight states. Organized by the National Pony Express Association as part of the Department of the Interior’s Freedom 250 summer roster, it is entirely free to stand on the side of a dirt road or in a tiny Western town to watch a rider gallop past, change horses, and vanish over the horizon.

4th of July Western Sky Balloon Festival (Delta, Colorado):

When: July 2-5

What: There will be local vendors, sporting events, and other fun activities to partake in in addition to viewing the hot air balloon festival. To attend the event is free but you’ll want some cash to buy food and what not.
