Orlando AM Weather Forecast: Staying steamy, few storms for Saturday
The heat is still with us as we kick-off the weekend. Meteorologist T.J. Springer lets us know how it'll feel when you factor in the humidity and times out our rain chances over the next couple of days.
ORLANDO, Fla. - The steaminess is sticking around as we kick-off our weekend, but thankfully, temps are slightly cooler than where they were earlier this week. Highs today top out in the lower to middle 90s, with feels like temps in the middle to upper 100s.
We'll be a few degrees shy of the Heat Advisory criteria, but you still don't want to overdo it in the heat of the day. A moderate to major heat risk is still in place across Central Florida. Temps came down a touch on Sunday with readings back toward seasonable levels, rising into the lower 90s.
Afternoon readings look to stay at or just above average through the next 7 days.
What will the weather look like tomorrow?
What to Expect:
We're depending on the sea breeze today to spark up storms as high pressure is still in control across the Gulf. That is keeping the dominant westerly flow across the Peninsula.
That should try and pin the East Coast sea breeze closer to the coast. The higher chances for showers and storms will certainly exist east of I-4, but chances are still only around 30%.
They come up a touch on Sunday, with chances near 40%. Scattered showers and storms are on the docket to end the weekend with a front just to our north, and a bit of upstairs energy in our vicinity. A couple of stronger to even more severe storms are possible.
The main hazards are gusty wind as well as frequent lightning, but some small hail is possible in the strongest cores.
Looking ahead
What to Expect:
We start to tap into more tropical moisture later next week as our wind turns back around from the south. That will make for higher chances of rain as we progress through midweek onward.
Our days won't be washouts but we'll see numerous more storms around during the afternoon and evening. It'll be more typical of our classic "rainy season" weather pattern. With the help of the sea breeze collision as well as a front stalled to our north, rain chances come back up to around 50–60%.
Tracking the tropics
The NHC has outlined an area in the Atlantic near Bermuda for potential tropical development. There’s a 20% chance of development within the next seven days. The system is set to stay fairly disorganized, and we will continue to keep eyes on it.
Another system off the coast of Spain and Portugal also has a 20% chance of development over the next seven days.
This will bring rain in gusty winds to those countries. A new area of interest has now been out looked across the main development region, with a 30% chance of development over the next week. This wave looks to come off the coast of West Africa on Monday.
This disturbance looks to have a better chance of organizing, which is something we'll be watching.
