Orlando weather: Heat takes a break as storm chances increase

Published August 23, 2026 8:59 AM EDT

Finally, we're getting a little relief from the heat. With a bit more cloud cover and this dip in the jetstream, we'll feel more seasonable temps today.

That comes with the price of hit-or-miss storms though, so if you have outdoor plans, you'll want to keep your eyes on the sky this afternoon into the evening.

RAIN CHANCES HIGHER TO END THE WEEKEND
Rain chances are coming up as our weekend winds to a close. This is thanks to a dip in the jetstream to our north, and at the surface, a stalled front. Ahead of it, we have some more lift with a boundary draped across Central Florida.

All of these factors, with the help of the sea breeze, bring our chances up to around 50% on Sunday afternoon.

Scattered showers and storms are on the docket, with a couple of strong to even severe storms possible. The main hazards are gusty wind as well as frequent lightning, but some small hail is possible in the strongest cores.

DRIER START TO THE WORKWEEK, WETTER END
Drier air overhead will keep our rain chances a bit lower on Monday, at least compared to normal. We'll see a few showers and storms Monday afternoon and evening, with chances around 30%.

That trend continues into Tuesday with isolated PM storms expected. We start to tap into more tropical moisture later in the week as our wind turns back around from the south. That will make for higher rain chances as we progress through midweek onward.

Our days won't be washouts, but we'll see numerous more storms around during the afternoon and evening.

It'll be more typical of our classic "rainy season" weather pattern. With the help of the sea breeze collision as well as a front stalled to our north, rain chances come back up to around 50–60%.

TRACKING THE TROPICS

The NHC has outlined an area in the Atlantic near Bermuda for potential tropical development.

There’s a 30% chance of development within the next seven days. The system is set to stay fairly disorganized, and we will continue to keep eyes on it.
Another system off the coast of Spain and Portugal also has a 20% chance of development over the next seven days.

This will bring rain in gusty winds to those countries. A new area of interest now has the outlook across the main development region, with a 50% chance of development over the next week. This wave looks to come off the coast of West Africa on Monday.

This disturbance looks to have a better chance of organizing, which is something we'll be watching.
