Orlando weather: Extreme heat ends, afternoon scattered storms expected

Today finally ends an 11-day stretch of Heat Advisories across Central Florida. It will still be a hot day, but the heat won't reach levels that are as dangerous or extreme as we've seen over the past week and a half or so.

Actual air temperatures will still be above normal as afternoon highs reach the mid 90s. A 40% chance of scattered downpours and storms is on the way for this afternoon.

A few isolated showers and sprinkles may try to move inland from the Gulf by late morning, otherwise isolated heavier rain and downpours will develop around noon.

Chances will grow more scattered from there, with the highest chances of showers and storms today from around 1pm-8pm. With frequent lightning expected, the afternoon dismissal could be delayed for some local schools.

DOWNPOURS HELP BRING A SMALL DIP IN TEMPERATURES
Scattered storms and heavy rain will continue this weekend with a 40-60% chance. While it won't be a washout, plan for afternoon downpours with storms bringing frequent lightning and isolated gusty winds.

All of which could impact outdoor plans, so keep a close eye on the skies and keep the rain gear within reach. So far, it looks like Sunday will feature the highest chances of the weekend at a 60% chance.

Meanwhile, a more classic sea-breeze-driven set-up will take hold into next week. This will help spark scattered afternoon storms while also helping to drop our temperatures by a few degrees. Highs next week will be closer to normal, climbing into the low 90s.

TRACKING THE TROPICS

The NHC has outlined an area in the Atlantic near Bermuda for potential tropical development.

So far, there's a low chance of development with only a 10% chance over the next 2 days and a 20% chance over the next 7 days. There are no impacts on Florida expected.
