Taysom Hill’s time with the New Orleans Saints has officially come to an end after he announced that he isn't returning to the franchise where he played his first nine NFL seasons.
Hill evolved into a hybrid weapon in the Saints' offense, playing various positions like running back, wide receiver, tight end, and backup quarterback.
The former BYU quarterback is the only player in the NFL's Super Bowl era to accumulate 1,000 or more yards passing, rushing and receiving.
Hill’s departure from the Saints was not a surprise considering that he didn’t sign an extension with the organization after becoming a free agent in March and sold his New Orleans-area home in the offseason.

Taysom Hill shared a message on his official X account about leaving the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday night, writing in part, "I’ve taken time this offseason to think carefully about what comes next for my family and me. I still don’t have a clear answer about what the future holds, but I know that returning to New Orleans is not in the cards."
Shortly after Hill's farewell post, the Saints posted a highlight video, narrated by record-setting Hall of Fame-bound quarterback Drew Brees, thanking Hill for his contributions to the franchise.
Hill's NFL career began as an undrafted free-agent QB with Green Bay during the 2017 offseason. When he was waived at the end of training camp, the Saints, then coached by Sean Payton, claimed him.
Payton, now coaching the Denver Broncos, initially planned to groom Hill as a potential successor to Drew Brees at QB.
But the Saints decided to try him out on special teams as a returner, an upback on punts and covering kicks.
After flourishing in those roles, Hill later became a change-of-pace, running quarterback who also chipped in at running back, tight end and receiver, earning the nickname of the Saints' "Swiss Army Knife."

New Orleans Saints General Manager reflected on Taysom Hill’s time with the club writing in part, "Taysom’s career to this point as a member of the Saints organization has been remarkable in all facets. His intelligence, unique athletic ability, versatility, and unselfishness have benefited this team in many facets for the past nine seasons."

Taysom Hill now has career statistics of 2,554 yards and 34 touchdowns rushing; 2,426 yards and 12 TDs passing; and 1,034 yards and 11 touchdowns receiving.
In 2023, Hill became the first NFL player in 50 years to have 10 touchdowns rushing, passing and receiving.
During his final home game for the New Orleans Saints in 2025, Hill eclipsed the career 1,000-yard mark as a receiver and threw a touchdown pass, according to The Associated Press.
