2 hurt after alleged speeder slams stolen vehicle into pole on Interstate 4 near Sanford: FHP

Two people were rushed to the hospital after the driver behind the wheel of a reportedly stolen vehicle lost control and crashed into a road sign on Interstate 4, closing the westbound lanes for nearly an hour on Thursday, according to officials.
The crash happened on westbound Interstate 4 near mile marker 105, which falls between Lake Monroe and Deltona. All lanes have since reopened.
Deputies with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office came in contact with a vehicle that was reported as stolen in the area of State Road 434 and Markham Woods Road before it fled, according to officials.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said, citing witnesses, that the driver of a 2025 BMW M4 appeared to be speeding on I-4 and passing other vehicles on the shoulder, when the vehicle went off the road and hit a sign support pole.
One person was ejected from the vehicle. A second person was able to crawl out of the vehicle, FHP said. Both people were taken to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital in critical condition.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, FHP said.
Deputies said grand theft auto charges are pending for the suspects.
