Wekiva H.S., 6 other schools placed on 'lockout' after anonymous threat
APOPKA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Wekiva High School was placed on a lockout Friday afternoon out of an aubundance of caution after someone phoned in a potential threat, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say the school received a phone call saying two people were on their way to shoot up the school.
Resource deputies quickly put the school on lockout.
Multiple deputies responded to the campus ensuring no one got on and off the school grounds.
Officials say a search was done on the building and parking lot as the school was then placed on lockdown.
School administration notified parents of the situation.
Deputies say a lockout is different than a lockdown, saying that it secures the perimeter of the school.
The school's principal said the lockout was lifted at the end of the school day and dismissal of students was staggered as deputies remained on campus.
Deputies say they believe the threat is not credible, but continue to investigate.
Orange County Public School officials say Killarney Elementary, Pinewood Elementary, Lakeville Elementary, Piedmont Lakes Middle, Prairie Lakes Elementary and Meadowbrook Middle were placed on lockout out of an abundance of caution and due to a close proximity to Wekiva High School.
