Uber driver accused of driving drunk with passenger in car

A man who claimed to be an Uber driver is facing charges for fleeing from police, leaving a crash with property damage and DUI after a ride gone wrong.

The incident happened early Saturday morning in Eustis.

A victim told police he ordered an Uber and was picked up by his driver, William Nieves, 32.

Once in the car, the victim said Nieves began speeding and swerving.

The victim said he asked Nieves to slow down, but the driver did not, instead turning up his car radio.

According to his arrest report, Nieves eventually hit a pole on Grove Street at Woodward Avenue, after which the passenger escaped the car.

The victim called 911 to report Nieves and said Nieves continued driving away.

Police said multiple patrol cars chased Nieves until he pulled into his own driveway where officers arrested him.

The News Station reached out to Uber about the incident and is awaiting a response.
