Teachers demanding better pay at school board meeting

Seminole county teachers will gather at Tuesday night's school board meeting to once again push for a pay raise.

Teachers say they want compensation for the growing demands that they have to meet both in and out of the classroom; many insist that a teacher's salary is not sufficient to live on, given that time commitment. With the recent push for teachers to get students ready for state-mandated tests, educators say they are struggling to meet the regular curriculum.

The school board recently gave teachers a 2.4% pay increase, but many educators say it is not enough. Teachers have been protesting at school board meetings for months, pushing for a better pay increase. The school district has said that it wants to do whatever it takes to resolve this issue with teachers.

Tuesday's school board meeting is set to begin at 5:00 PM.
