Suspect out on bail after allegedly shooting man in abdomen
DELAND, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - A DeLand man accused of trying to break up a fight by firing off a gun is out on bail after making his first appearance on Monday morning.
Police said that Charles Muise shot another man in the stomach overnight on Sunday. A couple was arguing in a restaurant parking lot when Muise decided to step in and fire his shotgun. The victim was shot in the abdomen and had to be sent to the hospital. The injury was life-threatening.
Muise was arrested for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The DeLand Police Lt. Millan said it would have been far better if Muise had just picked up his phone instead of his gun.
"We definitely want someone to contact us so that we can prevent something like this from taking place,” Millan said. “So if anyone comes across this sort of disturbance, definitely contact law enforcement.”
Muise is expected made his first appearance before a judge on Monday afternoon. He has since been released on a $10,000 bail.
