Suspect arrested after stabbing Volusia Co. deputy while trying break up fight

EDGEWATER, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A Volusia County deputy is recovering from a stab wound after trying to break up a fight between a man and a woman.

Edgewater police say it all started at a home on Pine Tree Drive on Saturday.

Officers say a man ran to a nearby Volusia County deputy's home while trying to get away from a woman he was fighting with.

Investigators say the woman followed him with a knife, and as the deputy tried to protect the man, the woman stabbed the deputy.

Officers say before the woman got to the deputy's home, she set fire to the home where the fight originally started.

Police say the deputy who was stabbed was taken to Florida Hospital in New Smyrna Beach with non-life threatening injuries.

The woman accused in the stabbing has been identified as Brittany Bonin.

She was arrested.
