Suspect accused of shooting man during argument

Charles Muise was booked into the Volusia County jail, accused of shooting a man in the stomach with a shotgun.

DeLand police say he did it after seeing a man arguing with a woman in a Downtown DeLand parking lot.

Police Lt. Juan Millan said it started at Café Da Vinci.

“Apparently they were being loud, so the staff asked them to leave the property,” Lt. Millan said.

The couple went to a nearby parking lot where they started arguing.

Lt. Millan said that's where Muise decided to step in and confront the man.

“Where now, the victim and subject began arguing. The male subject went to this vehicle, reached in, then confronted the victim, at which point he shot the victim in the abdomen,” Lt. Millan said.

The shotgun blast sent the man to the hospital. He's expected to survive. Police aren't releasing his name.

They arrested Muise for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He's being held on $10,000 bond.

Lt. Millan said it would have been far better if Muise had picked up his phone instead of his gun.

“We definitely want someone to contact us so that we can prevent something like this from taking place,” Millan said. “So if anyone comes across this sort of disturbance, definitely contact law enforcement.”
