South Daytona man accused of trying to kill his mother over chores

A South Daytona man is behind bars accused of shooting at his own mother.

A judge denied bond for Stewart Butler.

He’s facing first-degree attempted murder charges after police say he fired a shot gun and almost hit his own mother.

Investigators say Butler tried to kill his mother after police said he fired a gun in her direction outside their apartment early Tuesday morning.

Officers say Butler woke his mother up just before 2 a.m., complaining about chores he was told to do.

Butler got so mad, police say, he grabbed a gun, pointed it at his mother and threatened to kill her, then her cat.

Investigators found the gun hidden under a car in the parking lot.

Butler’s mother said her son is not a violent man.

She says she wants the charges dropped against him and that he’s currently going through a divorce, which has been upsetting him lately.

Officers say they’ve been called to the apartment four times since August to break up domestic disturbances between Stewart and his mom.
