Skydiver killed after midair collision in Florida

A skydiver from Brazil was killed on Monday after apparently colliding with another skydiver, Deland Police said, citing the preliminary investigation. A second skydiver received minor injuries.

One skydiver was killed and another hurt after colliding with each other Monday afternoon in Florida, officials said.

The DeLand Police Department said first responders were called to DeLand Municipal Airport around 2:26 p.m. after reports of a skydiver suffering a hard landing. Police said paramedics found the skydiver and attempted to save his life, but that he died at the scene.

Officials identified him as 43-year-old Giulianno Scott, of Brazil.

Police said the second skydiver, who was not named, was treated for minor injuries.

The man's body was transferred to the Volusia County Medical Examiner's Office where an autopsy will be performed to determined cause of death.
