Shooting leaves 1 dead and 1 hurt
ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - The Orange County Sheriff's Office says that deputies responded to the Magnolia County Apartments in reference to a "shots fired" call on December 19th around 4:11 a.m.
Deputies say that one victim, 19-year-old Sasmon Tavares, had non-life threatening injuries. However, another victim, 19-year-old Matthew Jafari, was deceased.
When deputies located Tavares, they say that he told them that his friend, Jafari, was still inside the apartment complex suffering from a gunshot wound.
Sasmon was reportedly transferred to the Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Based on the information gathered at the scene, Homicide Unit detectives say they arrested 31-year-old Benjamin Heyward Jr. on First Degree Murder charges.
