Dogs aren't usually said to have nine lives like a cat, but Trooper may be the exception.

The 3-month-old puppy was recently hit by a train in Hamilton, Ohio. His injuries were beyond severe: his left eye ruptured and his tail and back legs were severed.

The pup was taken in by The Animal Friends Humane Society on March 13 where he has been slowly nursed back to health. The staff even named him Trooper, clearly because of his fighting spirit.

"Our boy is a fighter!" wrote Animal Friends in a Facebook post after one of Trooper's surgeries. "He had a pretty uneventful night with no complications whatsoever, which is amazing news. His vitals are all normal and he has a hearty appetite!"

Trooper had to undergo a couple of surgeries and take IV medications. Now, less than two weeks after being on the brink of death,Trooper is ready for a forever home!

"Who’s ready for some Trooper cuteness??? Look at our boy go! And we’re happy to announce that he is officially READY FOR ADOPTION! Interested in this handsome lad? He’s gonna require special care and a patient family."
