Prayers for Kaleb: Baby Needs New Heart

3-month old Kaleb Waddleton is a fighter. 3 weeks ago, his parents, Kale and Marissa Waddleton, never thought they would be at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston.

"He had a dry cough, and you think it's a cold," says Marissa Waddleton.

Instead doctors diagnosed Kaleb with dilated cardiomyopathy. Simply put: he has weak heart muscle. Symptoms include coughing, dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite and bloating.

"His heart is not squeezing," says Ms. Waddleton.

So, Kaleb needs a heart soon that's why he'll remain at the hospital under a doctor's care.

"He's at the most urgent level for receiving a heart, but predicting when it could be available is impossible," says Dr.Shriprasad Deshpande, pediatric cardiologist at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

And that's because finding donor hearts for children is tough. None the less the Waddleton's remain confident because Kaleb is soaking up prayers--mostly from strangers. It's courtesy of the "Prayer for Kaleb" social media campaign.

"A friend of ours posted a favorite picture of Kaleb on Facebook, and its gone viral," says Kale Waddleton" From ventilators, breathing tubes to smiling. I've never been a praying man, but since he's been here, it's working"

The family says keep the prayers coming.
