Police say man fatally shot by masked gunman in DeLand

DeLand Police are investigating a homicide after they say a masked gunman shot and killed a man Thursday night.

Officers say they were called to Euclid Avenue for shots fired at around 6:30 p.m. They say a group of four to five people were sitting around a campfire in a lot when the shooting happened.

“Preliminary reports are that a masked gunman dressed in black came out of nowhere on foot, shot this individual, and then fled on foot,” said Deland Police Chief Jason Umberger.

Police say the victim was in his late 50s. They say they do not think the shooting was random since he was the only one who was hit after several shots were fired.

Investigators say K9s began tracking the suspect’s scent but they lost it. They think the gunman may have gotten into a car.

The name of the victim has not been released.
