Police investigating restaurant shooting
MELBOURNE, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - The Melbourne Police Department reported that there were firearms shot at a Melbourne restaurant on Tuesday, February 13th.
Police say that they received calls via 911 at approximately 6:37 p.m. in reference to a disturbance involving numerous people shooting firearms at a restaurant on East University BLVD.
However, upon arrival, officers said that it was difficult to determine who was involved in this incident because there was a large crowd of patrons there. They eventually discovered that those responsible had left the scene prior to their arrival.
Police report that one person was transported to a local hospital for lacerations received by shattering glass and shrapnel. That person had only had minor injuries and was already treated and released. One other victim is known, but no other victims came forward, nor did anyone respond to local hospitals with injuries consistent to the shooting.
However, officers say they believe that there were multiple people participating in the shooting with over 50 rounds fired and their actions were conducted with complete disregard for the safety of the community.
