Police investigate 'suspicious' death in Lake Mary

Lake Mary police detectives are investigating the death of a woman.  Officers responding to a call before 5 p.m. on Tuesday made the grim discovery of a body inside a dry cleaning business at the Shoppes at Lake Mary, near the police station.

Yellow tape cordoned off the area and a portable wall blocked the view to the entrance, while crime scene experts gathered evidence and photographers documented the scene of what is being described as a suspicious death.  Police spokeswoman Bianca Gillett calls this an active criminal investigation.  "When officers arrived, they did locate the body of a deceased female inside the dry cleaners. We have identified a person of interest in the case, and they are no longer a threat to the community."

A few customers went to drop off or pick up clothes today but found no one at the counter to help them. Officers later found the woman in the back room of the business.  Police are not saying if they have recovered a weapon.  Gillett added, "We are still in the throws of this investigation, trying to speak to certain people, trying to process the scene.  So when we have that information verified,  I'll give that to you."

Kevin Gordon gets his clothes cleaned at that business all the time. He is stunned to know anyone was found dead inside.  "Whoever it is, it's not good because death is a terrible thing," he said.
