Police: former Publix employee arrested after robbing 2 stores at gunpoint
HENRY COUNTY, Ga. - A man is behind bars accused of robbing two metro area Publix grocery stores at gunpoint.
Police said Isaiah Alexander, 26, robbed a Publix store on July 13 in McDonough then another store near Lawrenceville on August 1. Gwinnett County Police said Alexander is from Macon, Georgia and used to work at a Publix store.
Gwinnett Police Cpl. Wilbert Rundles spoke with FOX 5's Marissa Mitchell Tuesday. He said his agency, in with collaboration with the U.S. Marshals and Henry County Police, arrested Alexander at a Red Roof Inn the day after the Lawrenceville store armed robbery. In that case, Rundles said Alexander used a note and gun before demanding cash from employees.
In Henry County, authorities said Alexander drank beer before stealing $17,000 from a Publix grocery store there. In both cases, investigators say he posed as a customer and hit the stores right before closing time at 10 p.m.
