MorningStar Farms recalled two of its plant-based products over concerns that the frozen food items may have pieces of plastic in them.

What we know:

The recall covers 10.5-ounce Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets packages and 8-ounce Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties that were sold in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica, according to its parent company Kellanova. The food giant noted that none of the other MorningStar Farms products were included in the recall.

Which Nuggets and Patties were recalled

Kellanova provided details for customers to determine if the nuggets and sausages in their freezers were the ones affected, including UPC codes and ‘Better if used before’ dates.

  • Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets - 10.5-ounce size - UPC Code: 000 28989 10110 5 - Better if used before dates of July 7, 2027, and July 8, 2027.
  • Hot and Spicy Sausage Patties - 8.0-ounce size - UPC Code: 000 28989 10094 8 - Better if used before dates of July 5, 2027, July 6, 2027, and July 7, 2027.

What we don't know:

The company’s statement last week announcing the recall did not indicate how the plastic may have gotten into the food, nor did it say how large the pieces may have been.

What you can do:

Kellanova advises people who purchased either the nuggets or the patties to throw them out and contact the company for a full refund. Customers can reach the company by calling 800-962-0120 or texting 877-453-5837 Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern time.

The recall was published on the FDA website on Monday.
