Parents mad after students asked to list 'positives' of slavery
SAN ANTONIO, Tx. - A homework assignment at a charter school in San Antonio has set off an uproar.
Students were instructed to make a list of the negative and positive aspects of slavery.
When students showed their parents the assignment, they were not happy.
"My wife picks him up from school and as soon as they pulled out of the parking lot, he showed her the assignment and was pretty distraught about having to perform such a classroom assignment," concerned parent Robert Livar.
The school immediately responded, agreeing with parents, saying there is no debate about slavery.
It is "immoral and a crime against humanity," the school said.
The school placed the teacher who assigned the homework on leave pending an investigation.
