Orlando officer injured in 2018 standoff is back in Florida after treatment in Atlanta

An Orlando police officer who was critically injured in the line of duty is now back in Orlando.

Officer Kevin Valencia returned to Florida on Wednesday. Valencia was shot in a standoff last year and has been receiving treatment at a rehabilitation facility in Atlanta.  He was placed in a coma after being shot in the head during that altercation.

"I am thankful that you have all kept Officer Valencia and his family in your thoughts. I am saddened to say that his condition remains unchanged," said OPD spokesman Sgt. Eduardo Bernal.  "We remain committed to helping Meghan and the Valencia family during this incredibly difficult time."

We talked with Officer Valencia's wife, Meghan Valencia, who says that, although Kevin is still in a coma, it's time for him to come home.

"I'm hoping bringing him back to Orlando and having him around his kids, family and friends will give his body the motivation to come out of it," she said.

Valencia will be transferred to an undisclosed medical facility, according to a police spokesman.
