Orlando, Daytona Beach among list of top deadliest Florida cities for DUI crashes
ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - A new study shows that Orlando and Daytona Beach have made it onto a list of Florida's deadliest cities for DUI crashes.
Sarasota topped the list for the worst large city in Florida for fatal DUI crashes, with about 12 deaths per 100,000 residents. Orlando came in at number six with about four deaths per 100,000 residents. Daytona Beach ranked number nine with about two deaths per 100,000 residents.
The study was performed by LendingTree and used 2017 DUI statistics.
The study also found that while Daytona Beach had enough fatal DUI crashes to come in as the ninth-worst large city in Florida for fatal DUI crashes, there was actually an 58 percent decrease in fatal DUI crashes since 2014.
A DUI in Florida is defined as driving a vehicle with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08% or higher. And if you're under 21, a BAC over 0.02% qualifies you for a DUI.
